The Olivetti Programma 101 and Programma 203 in Achim Baqué’s vintage computer collection.

Several Programma 101 are in my collection. Also one Programma 203. The 101 is already heavy, but the 203 is a beast. The design of both are very intresting and for the 60's futuristic.
Early Milestones in Desktop Computing
The Olivetti Programma 101 is often regarded as one of the world’s first desktop programmable calculators. Introduced in 1965 by the Italian company Olivetti, the Programma 101 combined computing power with ease of use, making it a groundbreaking device for business and scientific applications.
The Programma 101 was capable of performing complex calculations, storing data, and running simple programs stored on magnetic cards. It was designed to fit on a desk and to be operated by professionals who did not necessarily have a background in programming or computer science.
Following its success, Olivetti introduced the Programma 203 in the early 1970s as an improved model. The Programma 203 offered enhanced processing speed, more memory, and expanded capabilities for both calculation and data handling. It maintained the user-friendly design that made its predecessor popular.
Both the Programma 101 and 203 played important roles in bringing computing to everyday office environments. They were used in a variety of fields, including engineering, accounting, and research. Their influence helped bridge the gap between large, complex mainframe computers and the personal computing devices that followed.
Today, the Programma 101 and 203 are recognised as pioneers in the evolution of personal and desktop computing. They remain valuable artifacts in museums, demonstrating how early technology began to empower users outside of traditional computer centers.
